LIBER-IMMS project plans to validate the use of radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, together with web, email and SMS communication technologies, to improve the management of libraries, and to provide citizen innovative informative services within and outside the library rooms.

- Library Services Pack based on RFID technology will provide a better and error free internal tracing of items, supporting librarians in their daily activity, and saving costs in handling and inventory.
- Citizens Services Pack still based on RFID interoperability with library IT information system, allow lending items to citizens in a more easy and fast way (self-service).
- Messaging Services Pack to citizens will facilitate traditional booking/lending/returning activities providing just in time information on availability or freedom of access.
